Latest twist in Lloyds TSB HBOS takeover
10/11/2008: The former chiefs of two banks are to appeal directly to HBOS shareholders in a bid to oust the group’s top brass, scupper the Lloyds TSB takeover and save thousands of jobs.
The two banks employ an estimated 14,000 in the West with C&G, the mortgage lending arm of Lloyds TSB, employing 1,300 staff at its headquarters in Gloucestershire.
The direct appeal follows Saturday night’s announcement that board members “unanimously” rejected Sir George Mathewson and Sir Peter Burt proposals, which would force out HBOS’s chairman and chief executive.
